Pharmaceutical Conveyor Systems
In Pharma, Even Minor Errors Have Major Consequences

Why Lightweight Packaging Fails at Conveyance Transitions
Lightweight cartons, blister packs, pouches, and small totes can skew, tip, scuff, or “accordion” at transfers, merges, and elevation changes. Those small disruptions turn into photo-eye faults, misfeeds into labelers/cappers/case packers, and a growing reject stream.

Managing Flow Variability in Pharma Packaging Lines
Pharma lines rarely run at one steady pace from start to finish. Upstream operations surge, downstream processes pause for changeovers, checks, sampling, or short interventions. Without the right buffering and accumulation strategy, you get constant starts/stops, product backups, and operators stepping in to “babysit” flow.

Reducing Line Clearance Risk During SKU and Batch Changes
Frequent SKU changes and batch control requirements make leftover product, mixed containers, and “mystery stragglers” a serious risk. If the conveyor path includes hidden pockets, long uncontrolled runs, or unclear divert logic, line clearance takes longer and mistakes become harder to catch.

How We Ensure Safety, Accuracy, and Compliance
Experience counts, and Industrial Kinetics brings proven expertise in designing and implementing conveyor systems for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing. We engineer around your process requirements, including maintaining SKU integrity and preserving accurate product sequencing in and out of critical operations.
One example is an autoclave loading and unloading system we designed for a pharmaceutical manufacturer. Sterilization cycles and corrosive chemicals can quickly degrade standard conveyor components, so we engineered a trolley-based transfer using a “mole” or trolley drive to move product into and out of the autoclave chamber. Only stainless-steel rails are exposed inside the harsh environment, while the drive and trolley mechanics remain outside the chamber during sterilization to protect uptime and extend service life.

The Risks of Downtime or Non-Compliance
Downtime in pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing rarely stays contained. A single stoppage at a transfer, merge, or critical process interface can cascade into missed production windows, delayed batch release, and last-minute rescheduling that strains labor and equipment. In high-control environments like autoclave load and unload, an equipment issue can also force longer exposure times, additional handling, or manual workarounds that raise the likelihood of damage, mix-ups, and lost traceability. The result shows up quickly in throughput, OEE, and cost per unit, along with increased pressure on teams to keep product moving under time constraints.

Non-compliance carries an even higher price, because it can trigger investigations, holds, rework, or scrap that extends far beyond the original event. Conveyor systems touch labeling, identification, and routing, so a tracking gap or mis-sequenced handoff can compromise chain of custody and put documentation at risk when it matters most. That is why Industrial Kinetics engineers conveyors with control, tracking, and materials suited to washdown and sterilization environments, and designs each handoff to preserve SKU integrity and process discipline. The goal is straightforward: reduce unplanned stops, protect validated workflows, and keep your operation audit-ready day after day.
