Trough Belt Conveyor

Overview

Trough belt conveyors are unit handling belt conveyors configured with bolt-on troughing angles to form a shallow trough profile along the conveying surface. This design improves product containment and stability when transporting loose materials or cylindrical objects while retaining the construction, controls, and maintenance advantages of standard belt-on-slider-bed (BSB) or belt-on-roller-bed (BOR) conveyors.

This configuration is intended for industrial unit handling applications and is not a bulk mining or aggregate conveyor. Troughing is achieved through formed or bolted side angles integrated into the conveyor frame rather than bulk-material idler assemblies.

Why Choose Us

Our trough belt conveyors apply proven CEMA unit handling belt conveyor principles while adding practical product containment through bolt-on troughing angles. This approach delivers improved product stability without the complexity or maintenance requirements associated with bulk material conveyors. The result is a reliable, easy-to-integrate conveyor solution tailored to industrial unit handling environments.

System Integration

Trough belt conveyors integrate seamlessly with flat belt conveyors, live roller conveyors, accumulation systems, and manual workstations. They are commonly used as infeed or discharge conveyors where additional product containment is required. Controls and drives can be coordinated with upstream and downstream equipment to maintain consistent product flow.

What industries typically use these systems:

01

Manufacturing: Conveying loose components between processes

02

Packaging: Transport of bulk-packaged items prior to case packing

03

Recycling and Rework Areas: Controlled movement of loose or round items

04

Consumer Goods: Handling cylindrical products such as rolls or containers

05

Distribution Operations: Product transport requiring lateral containment

A vehicle manufacturer was looking for a new method to deliver materials for the assembly of vehicles to four parallel assembly lines. IK developed, engineered, and implemented an overhead pallet conveyor system that provided great benefits to the vehicle manufacturer.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How is this trough belt conveyor different from bulk material conveyors?

This design uses bolt-on troughing angles with standard belt beds and does not use bulk material idlers or mining-style components.

  • What products are best suited for trough belt conveyors?

Loose materials, round or cylindrical items, and products that benefit from side containment.

  • Can troughing angles be adjusted?

Yes. Bolt-on angles can be configured to achieve the required containment profile.

  • Is maintenance more complex than a standard belt conveyor?

No. Maintenance is comparable to standard BSB or BOR belt conveyors.

  • Can this conveyor be customized?

Yes. Belt type, trough profile, drive arrangement, and dimensions can be tailored to the application.
