Chain Transfers

Overview

Industrial Kinetics’ Chain Transfer conveyors are engineered to divert or merge unitized and palletized loads at 90 degrees without changing product orientation. Designed for integration within Chain Driven Live Roller (CDLR) conveyor systems, these transfers lift the load above the rollers and positively move it perpendicular to the main flow. Chain Transfers are commonly used where precise pallet control, heavy loads, and repeatable positioning are required.

Why Choose Us

Industrial Kinetics Chain Transfers are engineered using proven CEMA application guidelines and designed to integrate seamlessly with CDLR conveyor systems. Positive chain engagement provides reliable 90-degree transfers without pallet skewing or reorientation. Multiple lift styles, chain sizes, and mounting options allow each transfer to be matched precisely to load requirements and operating conditions.

A vehicle manufacturer was looking for a new method to deliver materials for the assembly of vehicles to four parallel assembly lines. IK developed, engineered, and implemented an overhead pallet conveyor system that provided great benefits to the vehicle manufacturer.

System Integration

Chain Transfers are designed to install directly within CDLR conveyor frames and operate in coordination with accumulation zones, pallet stops, and controls systems. They are commonly integrated into automated pallet handling systems that include palletizers, depalletizers, ASRS interfaces, AGVs, and robotic cells, providing reliable perpendicular movement while maintaining system throughput.

What industries typically use these systems:

01

Manufacturing: Diverting pallets to parallel process lines or work cells.

02

Warehousing & Distribution: Merging or diverting pallets between conveyor lanes.

03

Automotive & Heavy Industry: Transferring heavy racks or pallets with consistent positioning.

04

Palletizing Systems: Routing pallets between palletizers, stretch wrappers, and staging conveyors.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does a chain transfer change pallet orientation?

No. Chain Transfers move pallets at 90 degrees while maintaining the original orientation.

  • What determines the number of chain strands required?

Pallet type, load weight, pallet condition, and support pattern determine whether two, three, or additional strands are required.

  • Are chain transfers pneumatically or electrically actuated?

Both are available. Pneumatic lifts are common, with motor-driven lifts used where precise or high-cycle operation is required.

  • Can chain transfers be installed in existing CDLR conveyors?

Yes. In-frame and through-frame designs are available to match existing roller spacing and frame construction.

  • Are pop-up roller transfers an alternative to chain transfers?

Yes. Pop-up roller transfers are used for applications where the layout and pallet orientation require it.
